S/V Long Distance sails out of Coral Bay, St. John, USVI

S/V Long Distance is a beautiful 40 foot Pearson charter yacht, which carries six passengers and sails from Coral Bay on the East end of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. The boat is owned and operated by Rick and Robin Gallup, St. John residents since 1995, and their lovable ten pound dog Kiwi. Rick is a licensed U.S. Coast Guard captain and Robin is a registered nurse.

Sailing on the S/V Long Distance offers:

  • Casual sails to quiet places
  • Great snorkeling at unspoiled coral reefs
  • A family oriented experience
  • Friendly hospitality
  • Island History
  • Local knowledge of the area
  • Sailing and snorkeling instruction
  • The S/V Long Distance is a fully insured charter with current U.S. Coast Guard License and membership with the V.I. Charter Yacht League, Friends of the National Park, and Coral Bay Yacht Club.

    Our Philosophy

    Sailing, not motoring
    Quiet places, not crowds
    Relaxing, not meeting a schedule
    Snorkeling, not bar hopping

    What to Expect

Guests begin their journey with a comfortable seat in the shade, or may relax in the sun on our spacious deck. After sailing to a secluded cove or island with unspoiled coral reefs, Captian Rick prepares food and beverages while Robin snorkels with the guests to point out the best features of each site. Back on the boat we have many resource books to identify what you have seen. Experienced sailors may even take the helm!

We work to accommodate each passenger's needs and create a memorable and unique experience. The boat has a private head, easy boarding ladder, and all the amenities to ensure an enjoyable trip.

Note on British Virgin Islands (BVI): S/V Long Distance no longer provides day sails to the BVI. BVI destinations like The Baths and The Caves have become crowded with large tour boats and small cruise ships. In 2007 passports became required for the BVI and clearing Customs can take up to two hours out of your trip. We recommend taking a ferry, motor sail, or power tour boat to the BVI's and sail with us another day!

    Awards

Congratulations to Rick and Robin for winning the 2008 / 2009 awards from Our Virgin Islands Daily Newspaper for the best SAILING in the USVI!
